Sunday 29th October - League games

Bloody typical - u go away for a weekend, and the agency contacts you last minute with news that 2 referees cannot make the games.. anger is not the only word that comes to mind.. so, I apologise to Celtic, Wkk, Auckland and Groovers for not having any referees; and I thank those who took on the responsibility of reffing.. I know what a thankless task it can be. Obviously, had I been there, I would have taken on the task of reffing one of those games. Last thanks goes to Doz for taking on the task of organising the new refs !..

The results this week were:

Celtic 3 Wkk 2
Barnes 1 Nellie's 2
Auckland 3 Groovers 3
Uncle Bob 10 Hendrix 2
Madras 1 Loko 0

Big score line for the Bobs.. although it sounds like Hendrix played well.. and good result for Madras vs Loko... Nellie's have their 1st win in their 1st season at Barnesalona... Wkk lost an important game that could prove the final nail for any league winner contention... Groovers with a good draw against Auckland... Celtic and Bob still neck a neck on points.. only goal difference separates them..

Some not so good news was that Allan from Barnes FC broke his jaw, colliding with one his teammates, whilst looking to clear the ball. I am sure you will join me in sending him best wishes and a speedy recovery. I believe he is being operated on today (Tuesday) and will be in hospital for the next few days - I will give updates when I hear anything.

As you know, I was away this weekend in Barcelona - a very beautiful city that transcends an aura of creativity to those who frequent its bustling streets.. and some chap called Gaudi sure left an interesting legacy of architecture that is well worth the plane fare to check it out.

Poor chap was killed by falling onto train tracks whilst walking backwards, checking out his creation being built.. moral..? Perhaps something like.. don't always look forward whilst walking backwards... mmm.

Oh.. and Happy Halloween.

Sunday 22nd October 2007

The rains have come.. been very fortunate with the weather until now.. did lead to some comical football though which brought smiles to my face on numerous occasions !...

Good close results again.. the League has very much opened up so far this season - which is refreshing and entertaining !

wkk 0 nellie's 0
hendrix 2 madras 2
barnes 2 celtic 3
loko 3 auckland 1
bob 2 groovers 0 (game forfeited by groovers)

Good results for Madras, and Loko helping them stay up in the top 1/2 of the table.
Groovers had to forfeit their game with only 8 players turning up.. perhaps more words are required from the management !
So its a close race at the mo between Celtic and Uncle Bob both lying in 1st place with Celtic on top as their name starts with a "C". If only Uncle Bob had decided on the name Bob..
Should WKK have lent one of their players to Nellie..? Will this result end their hopes for League contention?
And finally, well done to Nellie - they got their first point !

I'm away next weekend - going to Barcelona.. wonder if its any different to Barnesalona..

oh.. and it was nice to see so many of you at the Club House. Good stuff.

Recognise this?

Story so far.. 6 weeks in..

The League has never been so close nor so competitive.

Uncle Bob (League winners from last season), Celtic (League winners from 3 seasons ago) are leading the pack, with Hendrix close behind, one point behind both of them. Annnnnd then, Madras, Auckland, WKK, Loko, Barnes and the Groovers all within 3 points of eachother.. with the new team Nellie's Rangers yet to score a point. We all know how difficult it is as a new team in the beginning, but I am sure the points will come very soon.

Yours truly has already played 3 games - one for Madras, and 2 for the Groovers. And for the opportunity, I am thankful .. nice to see the old touch sometimes came back, the vision, etc.. but the legs are a different matter ! The old war wound has unfortunately reared its ugly head, and come back to haunt me on my last venture onto the beautiful green patches between the white chalk lines, and thats me out for a while.. (gutted).

But just for me, here's an old pic of me and the bro after some game at the Elms too many moons ago ! And, yes, i am pulling a strange face.. but check out the legs ! (only for the ladies mind)

Anyway's..

The website will show you the scores, etc... our resident website manager Hamid, continuing to update scores, and scorers (if given), so we may peruse the league standings.

And I will look to continue updating this ol' blog.

u still reading?.. bloody hell.

Season 2006-2007 Kick Off

New Blog Started for our Barnesalona League !

A league that was created by this chap, with pure enjoyment and friendly football in mind.

Story so far for the new season 2006-2007...

* 10 teams are in
* We have a new Cup - the Barnesalona Shield to compliment the James Rettie Cup.
* New team has started - Nellie's Rangers FC
* Said has found a name.. Ladbrooke Groovers FC
* Munchen have changed their name to Uncle Bob FC
* The rest have kept their names

* We have some new kits on the go
* Some corner flags (...), some pitches, referees, players, managers, club house, footballs, nets, pegs, net clips, groundsman, changing rooms, showers (photo attached) ... .....

This will be the 4th year that I am running the Barnesalona League; and I hope it will be a good one ! There were a few incidents last season (and maybe that of the previous season), but here's hoping the true spirit of the league is found, and we can enjoy.

Enough of this - let the football do the talking.

Live it, Love it, Play it.
